Recommendations
I was asked for a list of recommendations for places to eat in Vancouver. This list is in no way definitive; it was just off the top of my head, but I figured it was better to share than not:
Coffee
- https://revolvercoffee.ca/ “the” startup coffee spot
- https://www.nemesis.coffee/ Great coffee, plus good food & baking. The GNW location has a really interesting building (go for weekend bunch, but show up early because it get very very busy)
- https://www.prototypecoffee.ca/ Micro-roaster — literally multiple roasters behind the counter. They tend to have ~30 coffees at any given time
Japanese
- https://www.sakukatsu.com/ Some of the best tonkatsu I’ve had
- https://theeatery.ca/ Funky, approachable fusion/reinterpreted sushi & other Japanese (in Kitsilano)
- http://dosankorestaurant.ca/ Kind of a sketchy part of town, but the food is good. If they still have it on the menu, get the yuzu posset for desert
- https://guu-izakaya.com/ local well-known izakaya
- https://theramenbutcher.com/ unfussy, very decent ramen
Misc
- https://www.nuba.ca/ a Vancouver institution. Everything on the menu is good; lunch is a better deal than dinner. Get one of the fresh juices
- https://phnompenhrestaurant.ca/ Excellent Vietnamese
- https://www.eastvanroasters.com/ Social enterprise that makes chocolate from scratch on site
- https://www.instagram.com/blndtgerdumplings/?hl=en Speakeasy BLNDTGR (“blind tiger”). Order the #7 outside from the dumpling vendor to get in
Upscale
- https://www.botanistrestaurant.com/ good cocktails, nice ambience
- https://publishedonmain.com/ My fav restaurant for a nice night out
- https://www.bao-bei.ca/ really great cocktails and small plates (Chinese). I’ve done many biz dinners here
- https://www.kissatanto.com/ One of the top 5 meals of my life was here. Not cheap but it’s an experience.
- https://www.laquercia.ca/ Nice small spot in Kitsilano
Dim Sum
- https://quanjudevancouver.com/ Well known fancy dim sum
- http://www.sunsuiwah.ca/ well known non-fancy dim sum
Baked Goods
- https://www.beaucoupbakery.com/ Just outside of Kitsilano, all of the baked stuff here is good
- https://www.latelierpatisserie.com/ Hole in the wall (though sounds like maybe they have a new space?) — best croissants in town
- https://www.smallvictory.ca/ I’ve been going here for years; they get busy but they have pretty good selection of baked goods and decent coffee
- https://cartems.com/ My preferred local donut chain with drinkable coffee (the other is Lucky’s but the coffee there is very mid)
